Certottica and Istituto Zaccagnini together to train

An innovative agreement aiming at combining the needs of two worlds which are slowly drifting apart, optics and eyewear industry, by strengthening new professions and creating new ones. This is the goal of the protocol made official at MIDO between Certottica and Istituto Zaccagnini with branches in Bologna and Milan. Within a project of cooperation between companies, school and local institutions, they have created a preliminary training proposal, stemming from the integration of two excellences in the field of technical and professional training for the eyewear and optics sectors.
Certottica is the certifying body for glasses, seat of the only eyewear High Technical Institute and leader in the training of employed and unemployed people of the sector. Istituto Zaccagnini, is the leader – at national level – in the training of opticians-optometrists and it cooperates with the prestigious Aston University of Birmingham. “We want to create an equal and synergetic relationship to share our expertise in the sector of education and training”, said the President of Certottica, Mr. Luigino Boito and the Director of Istituto Zaccagnini, Mr. Giorgio Righetti when presenting the agreement to the large audience at Mido in front of specialized press and over one hundred young people. The agreement aims at promoting various kinds of cooperation, from the planning of guidance and training activities to the coordination and teaching of specific activities of training and company consultancy. The partnership seeks to offer an increasingly complete range of training services to the eyewear sector and its personnel, by meeting the growing need of integrating notions and practices of optics and optometry into the stages of frame design and manufacturing. “Actually, we want to put forward a synergic offer aimed at the whole optics-optometry industry, starting from the development trends which are emerging at business level”, says Mr. Boito, who underlines that the initiative was born also thanks to the support of Anfao, Certottica’s majority partner.

Also Mr. Danilo Fatelli, strategic consultant of Istituto Zaccagnini and author of the book “The industry of optical products: Integration of segments, internationalization and concentration: the new cycle”, dwelt on this point: “Interdisciplinary approach is a necessary stage: the optical industry is meant to integrate, as recent market operations demonstrate, too”. Mr. Fatelli then underlined the need of increasingly technical training, which must be actually linked with the companies needs.

Also Cristian Arboit, Certottica’s general coordinator, has a similar opinion: “Our training has a personalized approach and it immediately connects students and entrepreneurs. Up to now data have proved us right: all the students of the eyewear High Technical Institute who graduated just over a year ago are now employed in the industry”. “From March, after the project is defined in all its aspects, we will visit companies in order to fully explain the targets and contents of our training proposal. It will be a process of sharing which will put the needs of companies first”, pointed out Simona Agnoli, manager of Certottica’s Training Area. “Every activity will see us creating a dialogue with the territory and its schools, we are aware that the most effective approach begins in compulsory education schools”. The new proposals will target people who are already employed and willing to acquire new skills, and those looking for a job, eager to enter a world which –despite the crisis – was able to keep its head held high, through innovation and internationalization. The beginning of activities is planned for September 2018, at Certottica.
