Alvaro Siza Vieira signs a capsule collection for Vava

For the event of the 16th edition of the International Architecture Exhibition the ex-Santa Maria del Soccorso Church in Venice has opened to the public to host a special event: the Portuguese eyewear design brand Vava’s presentation of a capsule collection designed by architect Àlvaro Siza Vieira, winner of the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1992.
Two limited edition models, plus a third unlimited, were being exhibited in the chapel with minimal staging, reflecting the brands’ futuristic aesthetics.
Completing the presentation is a photography exhibition “When Architecture Meets Fashion” featuring glasses designed by Siza Vieira photographed outside the Santa Maria a Marco de Canaveses church in Portugal, one of the architect’s most iconic works. Built between 1994 and 1997, this church is considered a paradigm of contemporary architecture and creates an original parallel contrasting with the Venetian location, a deconsecrated chapel dating back to 1600 next to the Collegio degli Armeni in the heart of the Dorsoduro borough.
The Vava collection designed by Àlvaro Siza Vieira will available from the second half of October.
